Ten or maybe twelve years ago, I sat down to write, driven by nothing but my desire to give some substance to the unrefined sketches I had made in those days. And so, the Smotanci people were born, along with Keka, Krešo, Veljko, also known as Čudak Šumek, Prgava Vera, and Slavko who later became Pohapanac.
In those days, I spent most of my free time in forests, mountains, and along rivers. I was inspired by the simple desire to be in places where I felt good and healthy.
At the age of thirty, I could not have predicted how much the combination of stories and nature would change me and guide me through the coming decade. But what I did know was that I enjoyed writing as much as I enjoyed being immersed in the natural world. And so, from this passion, Šumeki was born.
